Seminar: Colonial Legacies and Gender Equity in Kenya's 21st Century Coffee Value Chain

Erika Koss is a Research Associate at IDS, University of Nairobi, and a PhD candidate in International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Erika’s research centers on the sustainability and resilience of the global coffee trade, particularly in East Africa, and the need for climate resilience and gender justice. She holds two Master’s degrees: one in English literature from San Diego State University in California; and an M.A.

Seminar: Sustainability and Social Licence to Operate

Linda Were is currently a PhD student at IDS University of Nairobi with interests in natural resources, sustainability and social performance. Sustainable development is a guiding principle for long term development which balances economic, social and environmental sustainability. Businesses especially those in the extractive industries such as mining are being pushed by various stakeholders including local communities to integrate the concepts of sustainability in their activities. Linda’s research is set to examine the relationship between sustainability and social licence to operate.
