Afrobarometer is pleased to announce the reappointment of the Institute of Development Studies, University of Nairobi (IDS-UoN) as its core partner for East Africa, effective 1 July 2023.

The reappointment follows the successful completion of a competitive bidding process. As a core partner, IDS-UoN will continue to oversee Afrobarometer surveys and related activities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Uganda, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia. The institute will also provide support and strategic advice to facilitate country-level results dissemination and engagement activities and contribute to Afrobarometer’s capacity building initiatives.

Founded in October 1965, IDS-UoN is a premier multi-disciplinary development research institute that conducts research on high-priority areas of socioeconomic development in Kenya and across Africa. The institute has been Afrobarometer’s core partner for the East Africa region since 2004.

Joseph Asunka, CEO of Afrobarometer, is optimistic that IDS-UoN will make a concerted effort to increase Afrobarometer’s profile and visibility in the region.

Karuti Kanyinga, director of research for IDS-UoN, affirmed the institute’s full commitment to upholding the standards of excellence and professionalism associated with the core partner role.
