Today, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Staff planted trees at the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies Hostel grounds.
In his speech during the event, the Dean Prof. Jack Odhiambo said the exercise was quite important since it was as per the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign which was launched by H.E the President on 21 st December 2022 and deliberated during the Deans Committee Special meeting held on 27th April 2023.
He further said trees are quite significant in the environment since they maintain an ecological balance of the environment, form a natural habitat for the animals, birds, insects and wildlife, reduce the surface run-off and soil erosion by binding the soil around its roots and finally have the capacity of reducing the heat in the environment thus creating a serene ambience.
He emphasized that as we carry out the tree planting, it signifies we are in one accord with our support for environmental sustainability in line with the Presidential directive on the National Tree Growing Restoration Campaign.
Finally he said, “May the trees we are going to plant today serve as a reminder of the Faculty’s commitment to a sustainable future for our country and inspire action from Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences staff to protect the environment”.
The accompanying Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences team included Dr. Jennifer Muchiri (Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies), Dr. Patrick Maluki ( Chair Department of Diplomacy and International Studies)
and Daniel Odhiambo.( Assistant Registrar)
