After a thrilling and competitive day at the annual University of Nairobi sports day. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences was not left behind. Making an energetic and enthusiastic showing at this year’s Annual Sports Day, held on Thursday at the University of Nairobi sports ground. Known more for academic excellence than athletic feats, the faculty proved that it can compete just as fiercely on the field as in the classroom.
FASS staff and students participated in a range of events, although from the classic 100-meter dash where they were not able clinch the top three spot in the student category while the Faculty of Agriculture clinched the Gold. As the day continued our lack did not run out, we were able to clinch the 2nd place for the Badminton for both men and women in the Students category. The day was brought to life by the spirited and motivated basketball team that was able to clinch our first gold for both men and women maintain a strong belief that continued to build up.
Disappointment sneaked a part of itself in the tug of war as they eliminated from early off in the competition. We resumed to the indoor games such as darts where patience and accuracy is part and parcel of the game. Our students did not disappoint us clinching the gold retrieving us back to the first place. Chess being known to be a game of the master minds, we were knocked out with the likes of Faculty of human Sciences and Technology living us out without silver, gold or bronze. The Scrabble game was nothing short of exciting as the students redeemed themselves in a thrilling competition from the faculty of Engineering beating them to claim the first position.
Among the highlights was an intense football match between the Arts and human sciences, which ended in a painful loss. The match showcased not only talent but also self-dedicated and sportsmanship. Students from the FASS also took home a silver medal in the handball, including gold in the rugby men's . “We trained hard and supported each other all the way,” said the captain of rugby of faculty of arts and social Science, who helped lead the team into victory. “It’s a day we’ll remember for a long time.”
As the sun set on a day filled with laughter, friendly competition, and shared memories, it was clear that the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences had not only participated but are crowned overall champions of the University of Nairobi Annual Sports Day, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences proved that their strength lies not only in critical thinking and creativity—but also in unity, resilience, and excellence on the field. Their victory stands as a testament to the power of holistic education and an unshakable faculty spirit.
