To achieve this, we must increase staff numbers, improve teacher-student ratios, and embark on a rapid transformation plan.”
Chair of the University Council, Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, applauded the graduates and noted, “The University of Nairobi remains steadfast in its quest to uphold excellence in teaching, research, and community service. However, as a public university, we remain mindful that our raison d'être is to meet the public's expectations, especially from taxpayers, regulators, partners, and most importantly, students, parents, and guardians.”
Acting VC Prof. Margret Hutchson extended her heartfelt congratulations to all the graduands, stating, “I extend sincere congratulations to all graduands for your dedication, hard work, and perseverance. This achievement reflects the commitment of supervisors, Faculty Deans, and chairpersons. Special thanks to all who contributed to the success of these graduates. Representing the Ministry of Education, Dr. David Watene conveyed the message of Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. Julius Migos, who reiterated the government’s strong support for research and innovation. He emphasized, “Graduates should focus on creating solutions that have both local and global impact.”
“We are excited to have you join those of us who have been part of the UoN journey and graduated before you. I graduated from this great institution in 1980, just over 44 years ago now! The UoN gave me a strong foundation for success and has done so for many of its alumni who are captains of industry and provide critical leadership in our country” said chair of university of Nairobi alumnae Association, Mr Issac Awuondo.
Valedictorian Wallace Chege Munyiri, from the Faculty of Health Sciences, delivered an inspiring address: “As we leave this University today, I am reminded of a line from my favorite song, 1976, Hotel California by Eagles: 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.'”
