UoN Celebrates Student Excellence at Taifa Hall

Earlier today, on May 9, 2025, the University of Nairobi hosted its annual Students' Recognition Ceremony at the historic Taifa Hall, honoring the outstanding achievements of 721 students from across its ten faculties. The vibrant and inspiring event reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, leadership, and the nurturing of diverse talents.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences celebrated 56 students for exceptional performance across a wide range of academic and non-academic categories. These included PhD, Master’s, Undergraduate, and Diploma programs, alongside awards for talent, corporate social responsibility, leadership, volunteerism, extracurricular activities, and Sports &Games.

At the PhD level, Ochieng Edwine, James Martin Bernard Otieno, and Okeyo Atieno were recognized for their academic excellence. Master’s level awardees included Kimechwa Alex Kandie, Damji Inara Mohamed, and Mulei Jacinta Nduku.

Among the top achievers in the Bachelor’s programs were Mzee Rukia Buki, Odhiambo Martin Jr., Namuyomba Hawa, Dali Kisha, Siham Tahlil Abdi, Gacunga Peter Maina, Ndezwa Dorine, Okonyo Loreen Atinge, Kiprop Sharon Jepkemoi, Bande Lyndra Melanie, Mwawasi Eunice Wawuda, and many others, representing the best performers from first year to final year.

The faculty's highest distinction went to Njuguna Abijah Njoki, who was named Best Overall Final-Year Student, recognized for her outstanding academic performance, leadership, and community service.

Beyond academics, students were also acknowledged for their excellence in various co-curricular areas. The Talent Award was presented to Malcolm Davis Orwa, while the Corporate Social Responsibility Award went to Daisy Nyanga, Emmanuel Nzioka, and Natasha Ambiyo Muthoni.

The Leadership Award honored Bosiana Odhiambo, Jessie Nobert Odipo, and Innocent Nyoni, while the Volunteerism Award was received by Trivah Nasike, Stacy Wangui Munywa, and Juvinalis Joseph.

In the Sports and Games Award category, many students were recognized for their excellence in athletic pursuits. Among the awardees were Emmanuel Carton, Lisa Wele, and Chrispus Sanja Amon, among others.

This memorable ceremony stood as a powerful testament to the University of Nairobi’s holistic approach to education fostering not only academic brilliance but also leadership, creativity, and social engagement.
