At the performance contract signing and staff performance recognition and awards ceremony in the Financial Year 2022/2023 at UoN, excellence was awarded. The best and most outstanding unit in the performance contract in the Financial Year 2022/2023 was the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. In the Faculty awards, the Faculty of Health Sciences secured the top spot followed by the Faculty of Science and Technology. In third position was the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The most improved was the Faculty of Built Environment and Design. In the Department awards, the Department of Food Science emerged at the top followed by the Department of Clinical Studies and third position was scooped by the Department of Management Science and Project Planning. The most improved was the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Survey. In the Central Directorate awards, the Directorate, supplies and chain management emerged winners while the Directorate of corporate affairs scooped position two and the Dean of students’ office was in third position. The most improved was the Directorate of Finance. In the Top researchers awards, those that brought most grants to the institution were the Faculty of Education at position three, Faculty of Agriculture at second place and the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology being the overall top researchers. The teachers of the year were Dr. Rosemary Imonje, Prof. Paul M. Kimani, Dr. Evans Nyaboga and the Best overall teacher awarded to Dr. John Obiero.

The University applauded the collective efforts, hard work, dedication, and excellence towards the success of the institution indeed with trophies and recognition certificates to the awardees. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama reflected on the implementation of the performance contract and commended that from the results, it was clear that sustained application of the performance contracting strategy was a necessary prerequisite for streamlining the management and operations of all university units so as to work more efficiently. “Over the years, since the inception of the Performance Contract, the university has witnessed tangible improvements in services and performance across various units. In the recent Financial Year 2022/2023, a commendable total of 87 Units signed and implemented performance contracts, exemplifying our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence”, he said.

The chief guest, Chair of Counsel, Prof. Amukowa Anangwe acknowledged the importance of awarding the university’s staff on their outstanding performance. “The staff recognition and awards are tokens of our appreciation for your exceptional efforts”. He called upon the staff to keep the UoN brand at the top, “Organization performance is the subtotal of individual performance, let's give our very best at individual levels as we also work collectively with each other”, he emphasized.

While delivering his remarks, the Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Brian Ouma congratulated the staff for a great improvement in the 2022/2023 Performance contract period.

The Chair of Council, Deputy VC-AA, the COO, DVC-RIE and the Deans of the various faculties signed the performance contract for the year 2023/2024 with the VC, a denote to affirm that the institution is going to support in the Implementation of these goals.

Other members of staff were recognized through staff performance appraisal, faculties, departments, grades, long service among other competing categories. Prof. Crispus Makau Kiamba, the former VC, was awarded the longest serving member award having served the institution for 46 years.

The event climaxed with the Registrar for Administration, Mr. Bernard Njuguna echoing the words of William James, that the deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated. Indeed the members of staff excitement underscored the importance of holding the staff performance recognition and awards.
